The United States’ labeling of China as a currency manipulator is unlike
上海419论坛ly to compel the International Monetary Fund to intervene, as it concluded recently that Chi
na’s currency practices are in line with its economic fundamentals, according to experts.
On Monday, the US Treasury, following an earlier pronouncement by US President D上海419论坛品茶微信
onald Trump, applied the label to China after the yuan depreciated, escalating the US-China trade friction.
The yuan now trades at about 7-to-1 against the dollar. That’s in line with China’s econo
上海419论坛mic fundamentals, and the IMF is therefore unlikely to impose sanctions on Beijing, according to Gary Huf
bauer, a senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics in Washington.
Hufbauer said that Trump believes the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) engaged in currency manipulation because it fail上海419论坛品茶微信
ed to support the yuan despite ample cash reserves, apparently creating a new standard overnight.
“The IMF defines currency manipulation as deliberate intervention to weaken a curren上海419论坛
cy in support of larger exports,” he told China Daily. “China’s yuan was weakened by market forces in response t
上海419论坛品茶微信o Trump’s latest tariff threat－and there’s nothing deliberate about China’s action.”
The IMF defines currency manipulation in Article IV of its rules and requires a vote by its execu
tive board. The US has its own standards, defined in a 1988 law, expanded by former president Barack O上海419论坛
bama as part of the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations, and codified in 2015.
“Trump’s declaration is not consistent with any of the previously announced standards,” Hufbauer said
上海419论坛品茶微信 “Trump is toying with the idea of countervailing currency intervention－selling dollars to bu
y yuan－but that seems unlikely. The Fed is not likely to go along, and the Exchange Stabilization Fund controlled
by the Treasury does not have the big bucks needed to move currency markets.”

Chinese space startup iSpace, also known as Starcraft Glory, made history on Thursday with the successful launch of its SQX-1 Y1 rocket.
The launch sent two satellites and payloads into a 300-kilometer c上海419论坛

The successful launch, which is considered a major step for private comp

Major stock and bond index providers have started, or have announced that they intend, to in

Guangdong province, an economic powerhouse in South China, is accelerating development of 5G, with 8,949

This song is even older than some of the people who are watching the show,” the bassist Ou says in the show. “Witne
上海419论坛ssing the evolution of Chinese rock music is a fascinating experience. We are proud that we are part of it as The Face.”
Western rock music first gained popularity in China in the 1980s with a performance given by the rock singer-songwrite
r Cui Jian on May 9, 1986, during a concert at Beijing Workers‘ Stadium. At the上海419论坛
packed venue, the then 25-year-old Cui performed his most well-known song, Nothing to My N
ame, which opened a chapter in China’s rock music story at a time when few Chinese knew what rock ‘n’ roll was.
In 1994 Ou, then 23, performed as a bassist at the Chinese Rock Power concert at the Hong Kong Arena. Bringing tog上海419论坛
ether He Yong, Dou Wei, the former lead vocalist of Black Panther, Zhang Chu and Tang Dynasty, the concert was the first showcase for musicians from
the mainland to perform in Hong Kong. It stunned Hong Kong audiences and created the momentum for a wave of rock music to wash across the country.
“Looking back, those legendary musicians and their works are still inspiring for the young bands
,” Ou says. “They shaped the golden era of China’s rock music. The band members are different people and enjoy different musi上海419论坛上海品茶
c styles. They come together and contribute to the band as one person. That’s the most interesting part of being in a band.”
Then with the birth of Modern Sky, one of the country’s biggest indie labels, which former rock singer-songwriter Shen Lihui founded in 1997 in Beijing as a way to distribu上海419论坛上海品茶
te both his own and his friends’ music, more and more indie bands emerged in the country while developing their own unique styles. The pu
nk-rock band New Pants, the pop-rock band Queen Sea Big Shark and the heavy rock band Miserable Faith were among the most-watched bands then.
The song also marked the start of a journey that would later make Cui China’s godfather of rock ‘n’ roll. It also usher上海419论坛上海品茶
ed in a golden era of original Chinese rock bands influenced by the Western music genre and expressing themselves in their mother tongue. The first
rock bands included the heavy metal band Tang Dynasty, founded in 1988, the pop-rock band Black Panther, formed in 1987, and The Face.
“Material possessions like big houses and fast cars were the last things on our mind,” Ou says. “Inste
ad, we were hungry for rock music and found any possible way to get the latest music from We
stern bands. Compared with young bands today, we had few opportunities to perform onstage because the audiences were
smaller and there were few live house venues. But we were very happy because we truly loved the music.”

The International Monetary Fund warned earlier this month that US-China tariffs tha

The Xi-Trump meeting will help ease tensions between Beijing and Washington in trade disputes, Zhou said. “You can

Stephen Roach, a faculty member at Yale University and a former chairman of Morgan Stanley Asia, said in the Preview Policy
